Exeter children urged to write poems to tackle food bank stigma

CHILDREN in Exeter are being called to pen a short poem about hunger and what it means to them, as part of a national competition run by anti-poverty charity the Trussell Trust, which supports a network of food banks across the UK.

The charity is calling on youngsters, aged nine and under, to create and draw a hungry character and tell its story in the form of a short poem – as part of its Bye Bye Hunger competition.

The top twenty entries will be published in a poetry book and one star prize winner will see their character brought to life in the Trussell Trust campaign...

People of all ages are being given the opportunity to spend time in the company of insects, through a series of fascinating new poems.

Award-winning poet Fiona Benson and sound artists Mair Bosworth and Eliza Lomas release their new collection of poetry sound pieces called In the Company of Insects , to the public from Monday, June 8th.

Exeter pupils' poetry selected for literary festival

The work of three Exeter School poets has been selected for publication by the Budleigh Salterton Decorative and Fine Arts Society.

The collection of poems will be published in September as part of the Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival and the work of five other pupils will also be on display.

The Year 10 pupils were invited to write poetry on the themes of poaching and conservation as part of a Budlitfest creative writing project during their English lessons.

New Ventures at Exeter's Dirt Pie Press - Poetry Wanted

Dirt Pie Press is a small-scale not-for-profit publisher that has been producing the highly acclaimed Riptide ( www.riptidejournal.co.uk ) short story anthologies since 2007.

Each collection features work by established and up-and-coming authors but the aim is also to discover and encourage new writing talent.

Over the years Riptide collections have included stories by such luminaries as Michael Morpurgo, Helen Dunmore and Philip Hensher but also the first work by newer authors who have gone on to publish novels of their own, including some writers from Devon - Penny Feeney...
