Stagecoach extends free travel for veterans and military personnel to include cadets on Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday

Stagecoach has confirmed its ongoing commitment to the armed forces by extending its new policy of free travel for veterans and military personnel to include cadets who wish to attend remembrance services. Free travel will be valid on its bus and tram services right across the UK on Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.

The Royal British Legion is seeking new volunteers for this year’s Poppy Appeal in Exeter, Exmouth, Okehampton, Barnstaple, Sidmouth, Chudleigh and Kingsbridge as the RBL celebrates its centenary in 2021, they have approached the Devon Freemasons for help but will still require more manpower. Devon County Show’s poppy appeal reaches target

Devon County Show’s appeal for hand-made poppies has reached its 11,000 target more than two months early thanks to the support of creative, local people.

The appeal was launched in October with a target of collecting the red poppies in time for this year’s Show on May 18-20 at Westpoint, Exeter.

‘Devon Remembers’ will be a tribute staged at the Show to the men and women from the county who lost their lives in the First World War.

The hand-crafted poppies will be put together to form a poignant memorial in the crafts and gardens pavilion.

The Royal British Legion Poppy Day is on 8th November.

We all know how much and how many depend on The Royal British Legion and a successful Poppy Day Appeal. The need for help is still as great as ever and we need to show our support for all members of the Armed Forces, retired members and their families.

Devon has always given generously. I am confident this year we will all “wear our Poppy with pride” – and with thankfulness.

Artists' remembrance tribute to support armed forces in need

British artist Nic Joly has raised £45,400.00 for The Royal British Legion through sales of ‘Never Forgotten’ – a signed limited edition miniature sculpture released to commemorate the WWI Centenary.

Drawing on the ultimate symbol of Remembrance and hope, the poppy, the poignant piece was released in July 2014 ahead of the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War.

The edition size is 1,566 – representing each day the war was fought – with each individual sculpture labelled on the back with a unique piece of information about that day during the Great War....

Ottery St Mary Tea Dance for Poppy Appeal

Dance to the sounds of wartime classics at Otter Nurseries tradtional tea dance.

The ‘wartime remembrance’ tea dance will be held in the restaurant on Wednesday, November 4 from 4.30 to 7pm.

Music is being provided by Bett Parker, and the ticket price of £4.50 includes homemade refreshments for all.

All proceeds from the dance are being donated to the Poppy Appeal.

Devon Grammy and Brit Award singer Joss Stone has teamed up with guitar legend Jeff Beck to record this year’s official Poppy Appeal single.

The single is a soulful cover of 'No Man’s Land (Green Fields of France)', written in 1976 by Scottish-born folk singer-songwriter Eric Bogle. Reflecting on the grave of a young man (Willie McBride) who died during the First World War, its chorus refers to two famous pieces of military music, 'The Last Post' and 'The Flowers of the Forest'.

Miniature war sculpture set to make a big impact

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the First World War, an Exeter gallery is unveiling a miniature war sculpture that will also raise funds for The Royal British Legion. Castle Galleries, Exeter, will unveil ‘Never Forgotten’ by Nic Joly, a poignant commemorative piece to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. Stagecoach South West supports 2013 Poppy Appeal

Stagecoach South West is helping to support the Royal British Legion's 2013 Poppy Appeal which honours and remembers service personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The local transport operator is providing poppies for all their staff that choose to wear them with a donation made to the Royal British Legion. It has also donated advertising space inside its buses to help promote the appeal.
