Superact, a not-for-profit arts & wellbeing organisation based at the Community Centre, are BBC Creative Champions and the event is running as part of the BBC’s day celebration of all things creative. Exeter’s newest community centre, The Beacon, is holding its first public event this Saturday 5 December – a Christmas fair.
Come along between 1pm and 3pm and see all the months of hard work that the Beacon Vollies (you’d call them volunteers) have put in. They have sorted, cleaned, painted and even put up a new ceiling at The Beacon, which was formerly the Knight Club in Beacon Lane.

Essential work to address persistent drainage and subsidence problems in Exeter’s High Street, between Mountain Warehouse/Martins Lane and Broadgate, has been completed almost two weeks ahead of schedule, Devon County Council has announced.
The problem, the cause of the subsidence it appears, was a failure of the street's drainage and poor condition of a 4" water main running through the High Street.
The work, which started on 16 January, has included drainage, footway and road works. Wales and West Utilities have also replaced a gas main from Broadgate to Burger King....
Archaeologists have discovered a 4,000-year-old pottery beaker during excavations ahead of the construction of the new town at Cranbrook near Exeter. The pot is remarkably complete with only a tiny portion of the rim missing. It was discovered buried in a pit about 2 metres deep along with a stone bracer, an arm guard worn by archers to protect their forearms when shooting. The bracer was made from stone sourced in Langdale in Cumbria.
