Exeter College art students showcase their talents this month in the city centre. The annual Foundation Degree Summer Show is open to the public, and provides an opportunity for prospective applicants to see the high standard of work produced. Exhibits include Fine Art, Graphic Communication, Photography and Digital Arts.

In partnership with Plymouth University, students can top up their Foundation Degree to a full BA with an optional third year in Plymouth.

Essential work to start on Exeter High Street next week

Essential work to address persistent drainage and subsidence problems in Exeter’s High Street is scheduled to start next week, Wednesday 16th January until Thursday 28 March.

New work, to be completed before Easter, will see new gullies and pipework installed along the length of the road from Queen Street to Broadgate.

Previous work to resolve 'settling' of the road and drainage problems have proven short-lived and the existing gully system is failing to adequately handle surface water, causing further damage to the road's substructure. The City Centre will remain open for...

Modern Diner to launch first restaurant in Exeter

Modern Diners Ltd is to launch its first restaurant, RUBY, in Exeter after securing the lease of a central city location.

The freehold of the Grade II Listed property at 74 Queen Street was sold to its current owners in early 2012 and Christie + Co, which completed the sale, was recently appointed to find a lessee.

The agent said there had been "much interest" for the property, which has a sub-divided basement area and an open-plan ground floor with a mezzanine level. The site formerly traded as a delicatessen and licensed restaurant.

Paul Davies, Chairman of Devon and Cornwall Polar Society, will give an illustrated talk about Antarctic Exploration, making special reference to Devon.

Many Devon men sailed with both Captain Scott and Ernest Shackleton. They played vital roles and endured great hardships. He will also focus on Devon landmarks and monuments linked to the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration. Paul will celebrate the contribution of Devon men to these pioneering expeditions.
