RSPCA launches ‘For Every Kind’ campaign in South West to ‘rethink animals’ in 200th year

In the South West, nine out of ten people believe dogs can feel happy - but just four out of ten think chickens can.

The RSPCA says we need to “radically rethink” our relationship with all animals as it launches its new For Every Kind campaign to mark its 200th year - as it reveals in the South West there is a stark difference between what people think those living in our homes, in the wild, on farms or in labs deserve.

The charity reveals new polling which shows a stark difference in the way we see animals, depending on our relationship with them and says we have become...

Charity reveals top five English counties with most netted animal reports

The RSPCA is renewing its warning about the dangers to wildlife of netting , after a little fox cub was strangled to death in a back garden football net.

The animal charity attended the tragic scene in a South London garden after receiving a call from the worried homeowners about three netting-entangled fox cubs in April.

According to the RSPCA’s newly released data for 2022, Greater London’s back gardens seem to be the most hazardous for animals, with a shocking 277 netting incidents...

RSPCA has announced a partnership with pet food supplier McAdams which will see rescue animals provided with higher welfare, ethically-sourced pet food as they await their forever home.

New RSPCA research has highlighted that rehoming domestic pets has slowed by nearly 10% year on year - rehoming an average of 753 animals per week in 2019, 565 per week in 2020 but only 518 per week in 2021 - meaning that spaces aren’t being freed up as quickly and animals are staying in their care for longer.

As such, the RSPCA has today announced a new food supplier partnership with...

The UK’s largest nature conservation charity, the RSPB, is looking for volunteers across Devon, especially in the Plymouth area, that have a few hours to spare each month to help their cause.

As a vital fundraiser for the charity, pin badge collection volunteers play an important role in placing and checking on charity pin badge boxes in places like cafés, garden centres and shops in their local area.

Last year Covid-19 sent shock waves through the RSPB’s pin badge scheme, and in some areas reduced donations by 90% on the previous year’s income, affecting the charity’s...

RSPCA launches rehoming campaign to help find outdoor homes for nervous cats in the South West

The RSPCA has launched a new rehoming campaign to help find alternative homes for ‘farm cats’ in the South West who prefer the great outdoors.

The project aims to find homes for farm cats and other nervous felines who need less human interaction than a typical domestic cat. The aim of the project is to educate the public that not every feline is happy to be a lap cat and to find outdoorsy homes for these cats much more quickly.

Farm cats are often nervous around people but still need someone to provide food, water, shelter and veterinary care when needed. As the name...

The RSPCA is calling for a new animal welfare law which will give animals involved in legal proceedings in the South West the chance to be rehomed much more quickly.

Currently, some neglected and abused pets which are rescued by the RSPCA as part of an investigation cannot be rehomed until the case itself has completed, which sadly means some animals can wait months and even years before finding their second chance.

As part of its Second Chances campaign, the charity is calling for a change in the law which would mean an animal’s future is no longer dependent on court...

The RSPCA will continue to rehome rescue animals on a delivery basis during the ongoing lockdowns in both England and Wales. Pets including dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets and other small furry animals will remain available for adoption as RSPCA centres - now closed to the public - switch to a virtual rehoming and delivery process. The animal welfare charity has 14 national animal centres across England and Wales - while many of its independent branches also have rehoming facilities switching to a remote process during the latest lockdown restrictions. Prospective adopters can speak to RSPCA...

The charity saw more than 50 animals a day reported abandoned last Christmas and is braced for more this winter after pet ownership surged this year

The RSPCA received more than 4,600 reports of abandoned animals across England and Wales last winter* and is worried a surge in pet ownership could result in more unwanted animals this year.
