Work to reinstate the depleted shingle on Sidmouth’s Main Beach will start early in the New Year, now that East Devon District Council has received approval for the job and funding has been agreed.
The council announced in October that it was looking into the possibility of accessing Government funding to reinstate both Main Beach and East Beach to the levels they were at before last winter’s storms. Work will go ahead early in the New Year on Main Beach, whilst East Beach has already been improved by natural shingle movement.

Full council has backed plans to pursue East Devon District Council’s office relocation to two council-owned sites in Honiton and Exmouth.
Now, detailed plans will be drawn up by council officers before any recommendations are presented to cabinet and full council in 2015. The council will now also enter into further negotiations with preferred bidders for the sale of Knowle before selecting a developer.
Again, a decision to sell Knowle will be brought to a future cabinet meeting.

Exeter-based charity Dream-A-Way are celebrating the success of the first fundraising event organised by their Sidmouth supporters.
It was a comedy night staged at the Marine Pub in Sidmouth .
Organiser Mike Rock said: “The night was a great success with over 70 attending comedians travelling down from Bath.
"Many thanks to all the staff and owners for hosting our first ever Dream-A-Way Sidmouth event and a particular thank you to the loft, Sarah and Phil for providing raffle prizes which helped us to raise £163!”
