Giant comet-like tail discovered on small exoplanet

The prospect of finding ocean-bearing exoplanets has been boosted, thanks to a pioneering new study.

An international team of scientists, including from the University of Exeter, has discovered an immense cloud of hydrogen escaping from a Neptune-sized exoplanet.

Such a phenomena not only helps explain the formation of hot and rocky ‘super-earths’, but also may potentially act as a signal for detecting extrasolar oceans. Scientists also believe they can use the discovery to envisage the future of Earth’s atmosphere, four billion years from today.

Pioneering techniques that use satellites to monitor ocean acidification are set to revolutionise the way that marine biologists and climate scientists study the ocean. This new approach, that will be published tomorrow (17 February 2015) in the journal Environmental

Science and Technology, offers remote monitoring of large swathes of inaccessible ocean from satellites that orbit the Earth some 700 km above our heads.

Each year more than a quarter of global CO2 emissions from burning fossil fuels and cement production are taken up by the Earth’s oceans. This process turns...

In this In a nutshell video, Tim Wadsworth from Space discusses why you should plan your lease renewal early.

Tim explains what could happen if you leave it too late and gives tips on what you should do to renew your commercial property lease. “Ideally you should start making plans eighteen months before your lease expires.

Business tenants normally don't have the right to renew the tenancy of their business premises when it comes to an end. In this case your landlord can ask you to leave.

So what should you do?

Firstly, start early. Research the current...

Met Office to forecast weather... in space

The UK will become one of a small number of countries to forecast the weather in space.

A £4.6M investment in this innovative system by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) will help protect the technologies our day-to-day lives rely on.

Severe solar flares, space storms and solar wind can disrupt satellites, GPS, power grids and radio communications.

Space weather forecasts, running all day, every day from spring 2014, will allow government and businesses to take swift action to ensure services are maintained.

Exeter-based Space commercial property advisers have helped a long-established firm of solicitors to merge two traditional offices into a new modern location. Law firm Dyne Drewett called in SPACE to help merge their Sherborne and Wincanton offices into new premises at Sherborne Business Centre, which offers an open plan environment, more parking, and room for growth.
