Stunning part of Exeter’s heritage on display for the first time since the Blitz

A stunning stained glass depicting Exeter’s patron saint St Sidwella is to go on display for the first time in 74 years.

It was recently discovered at St Matthew’s church, in Newtown, where it has remained undisturbed since the Blitz.

Now the forgotten glass, with its stunning depiction of St Sidwella, is to form the centrepiece of two special Heritage Open Days at St Sidwell’s Community Centre, on September 9-10.

Devon Guild Members Ruth Broadway, Stuart Low and Angie Parker are three distinctive makers working in print, glass and weave. In Colour Coded each maker draws on skill sharing sessions and group discussion to explore personal responses to the themes of colour and shape.

Have a go at this magical craft this summer. You’ll be hooked! Design your own stained glass window inspired by the beautiful glass in the Cathedral. Watch as we shrink it down so that you can take it away as your very own unique keyring.

This is a drop in workshop and so booking is not required. Aimed at children aged up to 11, 10.30am-12.30pm and 1.30pm-3.30pm.

£1 per keyring.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.
