Pay-by-phone on-street parking made more convenient

As more and more town centre shops start to re-open, Devon County Council is making pay-by-phone on-street parking as convenient as possible to help shoppers and commuters stay safe.

Cashless parking is already offered at Devon’s on-street parking meters, but the pay-by-phone service will switch to RingGo from next month (August). The new service will mean that users no longer need to pay a convenience charge and it is hoped that more will opt to use this way of paying.

Exeter BID launches enhanced street cleaning service

The Exeter Business Improvement District is introducing an enhanced street cleaning service with the appointment of an operative who will take on the role.

The service, funded by Exeter BID, will provide additional cleaning to the BID area to ensure an improved environment for local businesses and visitors to the city. Streetlight upgrade continues across Devon

Work to upgrade more than 24,000 streetlights to LED lighting will continue across Devon next month (April).

The £10.2 million scheme, using Challenge Funding which Devon County Council received following a successful bid to the Department for Transport, will convert streetlights to lower wattage LED lighting, and around 5,000 columns will also be replaced as part of the project.

Nationwide hunt for the most romantic city strolls

Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking, is asking lovers to nominate their favourite romantic walks before the finalists are put to the public vote ahead of February 14.

The walk can be a trip down memory lane to loves past or present and people entering the competition are being given the chance to share their reasons for their nominations.

The competition is also designed to inspire people to revisit their favourite city walks and perhaps relive the memories.

On-street parking consultation in Exeter

A consultation will be launched next month on on-street parking for residents in Heavitree, Polsloe and the Elizabeth Avenue area of Exeter, starting with two public exhibitions.

Plans will go on show at exhibitions at The Scout Hall on South Lawn Terrace on Friday 4 December between 1pm and 7pm, and at St James Church Hall on Wednesday 9 December between 1pm and 7pm. Both exhibitions will display the same information.

Second suspicious package found in Exeter

Investigations continue into the earlier suspicious package found in York Road, near Sidwell Street, Exeter, and a number of road closures remain in place.

St Sidwell’s School also remains evacuated at this time. Road closures at York Road on both the Sidwell Street and Longbrook Street entrances remain in place.

A second suspect package has been found at the King William Street Car Park in Exeter City Centre at around 9.15am today (Monday 29 June).

This has resulted in further road closures in the area and evacuation of a small number of local properties.
