Bathing water quality website now live

South West Water's award-winning bathing water quality website BeachLive - www.beachlive.co.uk - has gone live, ready for the start of the bathing water season on 15 May.

The website features 45 Blue Flag and popular beaches across the region, with live water quality updates from 40.

Young people to be rewarded for their commitment to life saving

The hard work of a number of young people from Mid Devon is to be rewarded following their commitment to The Devon and Cornwall Police Family Swimming and Life Saving Club. The Heritage Award Bronze Medallion is in recognition for their work over the last 12 months in teaching and life saving up to competition level, with many will now progressing through to the Survive and Save programme. Exeter's Liam Tancock bags Silver at Leeds

Exeter and Loughborough University’s Liam Tancock collected his second medal of the British Gas International Swimming Meet in the 50m Backstroke tonight, taking silver in a time of 25.50.

Tancock holds the world record for the event with a time of 24.04 seconds but explained he was in a period of heavy training.

"It's all part of the plan looking ahead to the summer," Tancock said. "I am pretty pleased with that, it's going well."

Devon Lifesavers aiming to be on top of the world

Two members of Dawlish Warren Lifesaving Club are flying out to Adelaide in Australia this week to take part in the World Lifesaving Championships.

Rescue 2012 will involve over 3000 competitors from all over the world, competing in the pool, beach and ocean events. All competitors are members of voluntary lifesaving clubs. Clare Frank and Neil Johnson compete in the Masters competition, which is for the over 30’s.
