Free Twitter masterclass event

A local digital marketing agency is aiming to help businesses hit the ground running in 2017 with a series of free events.

The first masterclass, to be held on Wednesday 15th February, will focus on how businesses can tweak their current Twitter activity in order to increase the amount of leads and enquiries they are gaining.

MiHi Digital, which has quoted for more than £150,000 of work from Twitter over the past three years, has used the social network to grow their own business and is now looking to share some of the key principles behind their success.

Exeter businesses will soon be able to authenticate Twitter accounts with blue tick

Businesses and individuals across Exeter will soon be able to apply for their very own blue Twitter tick as the social media giant begins rolling out a new scheme.

Over the last few weeks Twitter has announced it will be launching a new system which allows local businesses apply for verified status. Verified status is displayed by the reputable blue tick that appears next to a Twitter profile. Senior policeman renews mental health fears

A senior policeman has once again taken to social media to raise concern about the amount of police time being taken up coping with mental health patients.

Devon and Cornwall Assistant Chief Constable Paul Netherton posted on his twitter account: "Yet again MH patients being kept in police cells as no beds available in D&C. NHS providing nurses to help but still no places #unacceptable"

Earlier this year Mr Netherton told Sky News his officers spend 20 per cent of their time dealing with mental health issues even though they are not trained or equipped to do so....

Exeter Samartians join Twitter

The local branch of Samaritans is aiming to increase the information it provides and the audience it reaches by taking the unusual step of setting up a Twitter account.

The Exeter Mid and East Devon branch - which uses the name @ExeSamaritans - is one of the first Samaritans branches in the country to open an account on Twitter, and will create tweets that will be sent to followers several times each week.

Judi: Crescendo of complaints grows

Just two posts on BBC Devon’s Facebook page about the departure of Judi Spiers have attracted almost 1,000 comments.

Meanwhile, another 1,000 people have backed a campaign called @bringbackjudi on Facebook and Twitter.

It appears that although BBC bosses had hoped the crescendo of complaints would die down after Judi’s last show, on Friday, they appear to be gaining momentum.

The target for most of the criticism is the station’s managing editor, Mark Grinnell.

A social media revolution is growing over the decision by BBC Radio Devon boss Mark Grinnell to axe the Judi Spiers show.

Hundreds of people have taken to Twitter and Facebook to express their anger and dismay.

A Facebook post announcing Judi’s last show this morning had received more than 100 comments in just over an hour meanwhile, a statement made online by Mr Grinnell yesterday has attracted a whopping 550 responses.

A campaign set up on both twitter and facebook called Bring Back Judi has almost 1,000 followers.

A twitter account has been set up calling on BBC bosses to save popular presenter Judi Spiers’ show from the axe.

The Radio Devon stalwart told her audience this morning that this week would be her last.

She said: "This is my last week. But boy we've had some good times. We've had some dodgy times as well but on the whole we've had some good ones. We've had some dark times in recent days but hopefully they'll be blown away.”

It is not clear why the show is being dropped but the Daily understands it was not Judi’s choice to leave and that she is deeply saddened....

Devon law firm is Twitter number 1

A leading Devon law firm has been ranked number 1 in the UK for its influence on Twitter, according to digital marketing specialists I-com.

Stephens Scown LLP, which is based in Exeter, came top in the survey which looked at the influence or “Klout” of the top 200 law firms on Twitter.

I-com first ranked firms by Klout alone - a figure prepared by Twitter to rank the effectiveness of its users - and Stephens Scown was placed second, but when they factored in the size of the firm and its revenue compared to other larger firms, Stephens Scown moved into first place.
