UK inflation rate remains at 2.7%

The UK's rate of inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the year to September, remains at 2.7%. The rate is unchanged since August.

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), changes in the consumer categories used to measure the rate were relatively small compared with most months. The largest upward contribution came from air fares, though this was offset by a downward contribution from petrol and diesel prices.

Inflation as measured by the retail price index (RPI) fell by 0.1% to 3.2% from 3.3% in August.

South West house sales hit highest level in over five years

The number of homes sold in the South West is at the highest level since February 2008 as the housing market recovery continues to gather pace, says the September RICS Residential Market Survey.

Unemployment rate in the South West unchanged as UK sees an overall 0.1% fall

The South West continues to see one of the UK's highest rates of employment, despite a slight fall in employment of 0.7% to 73.9% in the period from May to July. The rate of unemployment for the region remained unchanged at 6.2%.

The Office for National Statistics has released both national and regional figures for the last financial quarter.

UK house prices up 5.4% in year-on-year comparison

UK house prices have seen their highest annual rise since June 2010. In the three months to August 2013, prices have risen an average of 5.4% from the same period last year, according to the Halfax's latest house price survey.

Prices were also up in the three months to August from the previous three months (March/April/May), rising by 2.1%. The August figure remains unchanged from both June and July.
