Semi-Toned crowned champions of national TV sing-off

Exeter’s all-male student a cappella group, Semi-toned, has won the BBC’s national TV singing competition The Choir, Gareth’s Best in Britain.

The University of Exeter students were celebrating last night, when they hit the right note for host Gareth Malone and a panel of expert judges with their renditions of Richard Blackwood’s Anthem of Praise and Señorita by Justin Timberlake.

Semi-toned member Ted Bartram who sang the solo said the experience was “humbling and uplifting”.

Events company Event Exeter has exciting plans to end the year after winning big at the 2016 Devon Tourism awards.

The company, which represents event venues at The University of Exeter, is now ready to host its Christmas parties for local businesses and residents.

The Prince of Wales has praised the work of University of Exeter experts to help support small family farms.

His Royal Highness has said he hopes recommendations by Professor Michael Winter and Professor Matt Lobley and their team, to help ensure a smooth succession between different generations of farmers, are taken up.

Exeter wins £1.5m funding for world-leading initiative to advance health research

The University of Exeter has been awarded £1.5 million by Wellcome to enable translation of findings from its world-leading research programmes into improvements in human health on a global scale.

The University has received the substantial grant from Wellcome’s Institutional Strategic Support Fund (ISSF) – the third time it has successfully applied for funds through the leading scheme.

Violent wind collision zone between two stars seen for first time

The tumultuous region between two stars, where violent winds crash together at speeds of up to 10 million km per hour, has been revealed for the first time, thanks to state of the art infrared imaging techniques.

The University of Exeter is the top university in the southwest according to The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017.

The university, which was The Times and The Sunday Times University of the Year for 2012-13, ranks 9= in this year’s league table. The Southwest region is well represented in the wider top 20 with Bath ranking 12th in the UK and Bristol 19th.
