Exeter City slip up at Wimbledon

Match report: Wimbledon 4 Exeter City 1

2014 ended in a disappointing fashion for Exeter City, who were defeated 4-1 at AFC Wimbledon in the final fixture of the calendar year.

Fine margins at either end of the field proved the difference, as the Dons scored once before the break and three times after – and came close to keeping Exeter out for the duration before conceding late.

Matt Tubbs netted from close-range in the first period, and Adebayo Azeez netted a brace after the break. Adebayo Akinfenwa slotted in a fourth for the Dons before Liam Sercombe placed in a...

Thanks to cooperation of the League and AFC Wimbledon – who will be wearing their all-white kit for the fixture – the new kit will grace the Park for the first time. The Grecians will line up in yellow shirts, blue shorts and blue and white socks.

The fixture is the Grecians’ designated ‘Brazil Day’, when the 99...

Report: AFC Wimbledon 2 Exeter City 2

Two goals on his full debut by Jamie Reid helped Exeter to a 2-2 draw away to AFC Wimbledon in front of a record crowd at Kingsmeadow.

The Grecians twice went ahead through the youngster, but Luke Moore brought the hosts level on both occasions as the game ended all-square.

Reid’s first came deep into the first half as he smashed in from the edge of the area, but Luke Moore had the Dons level with a similar strike early in the second period. It sparked off a feast of goalmouth action as Reid netted another with a shot across the...

Exeter City put an end to a disappointing run of results with a 2-0 win over visitors AFC Wimbledon. Veteran Jamie Cureton opened the scoring for City with a composed finish just after the half-hour mark, and John O’Flynn sealed the victory with a low drive 20 minutes from time. AFC Wimbledon rallied in the second half but City’s dominance was reflected in the result. City manager Paul Tisdale made just a single change to the starting XI after the weekend’s FA Cup tie against Bury. Amankwaah took a seat on the bench with Steve Tully slotting in at right-back, while John O’Flynn made his...
