With energy prices stopping us from turning the heating on, one industry expert warns that the nation’s health is at risk

The UK is in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis, with energy price hikes making everyone think twice about boiling the kettle and using the oven. From turning appliances off and keeping doors shut, we are all having to think differently, and as it gets colder, this includes not putting the heating on.

People in Devon, who are most vulnerable to flu and Covid-19, are being encouraged to book in for their autumn booster vaccines.

Having the Covid-19 autumn booster and seasonal flu vaccines will help to protect people from becoming seriously ill this winter, which in turn will reduce pressure on the NHS during, what is expected to be, a very challenging winter.

Clinics offering the latest vaccine are being held at supermarkets, sports grounds, pharmacies and places of worship. People in north Devon with mobility problems can also make use of drive-thru vaccine clinics,...

Devon is on the road to recovery

Highways teams continue to work to get Devon moving again following the gale forces winds that hit the region on Friday.

Friday morning and early afternoon represented the ‘peak’ of Storm Eunice in Devon, with wind speeds recorded of up to 100mph in places.

Devon County Council is advising people to only travel if absolutely necessary with ‘extremely strong winds’ expected over the next few days and reaching a peak in the early hours of tomorrow (Friday) morning.

Devon ready for winter

With temperatures tumbling this week, Devon is prepared and ready to cope with the challenges of winter on the county’s roads.

Road surface temperatures are forecast to drop below -2C in some parts of Devon tonight and gritters will be out on all of the county’s primary salting routes from 6pm this evening.
