Real Food Store customers raise almost £100 for Exeter Foodbank

Customers at Exeter’s community-owned Real Food Store have raised almost £100 for Exeter Foodbank in just one month, by ‘rounding up’ their shopping bills to support the charity.

The funds have been raised as part of a new partnership between the Real Food Store and Exeter Foodbank, to support vulnerable and low-income Exeter residents to access high quality, local produce.

Exeter’s popular local food co-operative is celebrating the change of season with a tasty series of ‘meet the supplier’ events.

The Real Food Store on Paris Street will play host to a range of artisan suppliers who will talk about where their products come from and how they are made. Customers will be able to taste samples and buy products in store.

Pop up restaurant a roaring success

Customers of Exeter's The Real Food Store and Pickle Shack pop-up restaurant regulars were indulged with three courses of local fare following the successful collaboration of the two businesses.

The Real Food Store is a community owned store and cafe consisting of over 300 members, staff and board members.

The store was set-up by enthusiastic food lovers who upheld values of sustainability, locality and seasonality, ideals which mirror those of Michelin trained chef and founder of Pickle Shack, Josh McDonald-Johnson.

Devon wine tasting at Real Food Store

To celebrate the end of a wonderful summer the Real Food Store, Exeter is hosting a Devon wine tasting evening to launch their new range on Tuesday 19 November between 6-8pm.

Three vineyards, all within 12 miles of the city, are supplying wine to the community owned store which opened in March 2011. Pebblebed, at Clyst St George, Yearlstone, at Bickleigh, and Manstree based at Shillingford St George.

Customers can sample at least six wines for just £5 during the evening and meet the local wine producers.

The Real Food Store, on Exeter's Paris Street, has teamed up with Sitting Firm Chairmakers - a family-run furniture makers based in the heart of England specialising in Windsor chairs - to bring its customers a fantastic new range of products. New summer exhibition at the Real Food Store

An evocative exhibition of Devon landscapes showing throughout July and August features the work of two photographers, Natalie Christie and Martin Sharpe.

Christie captures landscape through artistic eyes and the selection of her works large and small is stunning, including summer grasses against a stormy sky and crashing waves.

Sharpe’s work is abstract with an emphasis on line, shape, pattern and beautiful spectrums of colour. All of the works are available for sale and can be ordered in different sizes.

Real Food Store enjoys the John Lewis effect

Having enjoyed a mini-boom since the new John Lewis store opened just up the street, the Real Store and Cafe has announced it will be opening for late-night shopping until 8pm every Thursday from 18th October. Pop in early evening to pick up your groceries, or for those wishing to plan ahead, maybe a few Christmas gifts - local chutneys, jams, biscuits, coffees or cider will go down a treat. The fresh produce is looking decidedly autumnal with corn, leeks, bulb onions, shallots, beetroot and scrumptious squash all crying out to be transformed into a culinary feast.
