Exeter teacher supports vulnerable children at London Marathon

A 50-year-old teacher from Exeter, who was inspired to run the London Marathon to help vulnerable children and young people proudly crossed the finish line on Sunday to raise hundreds of pounds for The Children’s Society.

Tracey Lloyd completed the gruelling 26.2 mile course in an impressive four hours and 22 minutes on Sunday 23 April to support the charity’s work with the most vulnerable children across the country who experience issues such as child sexual exploitation, poverty and neglect.

A former teacher who retired to Crediton, recently lost her battle against mesothelioma, a type of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos.

Sue Stephens taught hundreds of children in her 30 years in the classroom and believed the cancer was caused by the job she loved.

Sue, who had launched a petition calling on the Government to do more to protect children and staff at affected schools, died at her home on 26 June 2016 to the sound of the dawn chorus.

Exeter teacher receives Silver Award for Excellence in Special Needs Teaching

On Friday 17 June, Exeter Deaf Academy Governors, Trustees, staff and students were joined by the Right Honourable Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw and the Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Exeter Cynthia Thompson.

English teacher, Deb Thomas was presented with the Silver Award for Excellence in Special Needs Teaching 2016 by the MP and Lord Mayor and is now one of the top six teachers in the UK in line to win a Pearson Teaching Award for 2016 Teacher of Year.

Exeter School teacher prepares for London Marathon

An Exeter School PE teacher is preparing for the London Marathon in aid of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

Hannah Rhodes chose to raise money for the charity as she has a number of close friends who suffer from diabetes.
