The owner of a gastro pub in Exeter is raising a glass to his new wine school which launches this week.

Luke Davies, the owner of Cowick Barton gastro pub and a local wine expert, is launching Devon Local Wine School to host regular wine tastings, food and wine events and wine qualifications for those keen to learn more about wine.

Exonians to give Hong Kong arrivals a warm welcome

This weekend, Exeter will host their first ever Friendship Festival , offering a VIP celebration to welcome arrivals from Hong Kong. Around 140,000 people from Hong Kong have arrived into the UK following the introduction of British Nationals Overseas (BNO) visa scheme offered by the UK Government in January 2021. The event, centred around the Lunar New Year festivities, will celebrate the coming together of cultures and draw in on traditions, food, and fun activities that many would usually enjoy when back home in Hong Kong.

Magic fans can help a University of Exeter expert with his ongoing research into social behaviour during a unique city event.

Professor Brian Rappert, a criminologist, took up entertainment magic five years ago and is now a member of the Magic Circle.

During shows this winter at the Exeter Phoenix Arts Centre Professor Rappert will offer displays of magic as a way to get audiences to consider the place of deception and secrecy in everyday life. Attendees will be able to try out some magic for themselves.

Despite cost of living, study finds personal debts in Exeter have decreased by 28%

New data from personal insolvency provider, Creditfix , has revealed that average debt levels in Exeter have decreased by 28% since 2020.

The Personal Debt Index is compiled by using data from over 185,000 people across the UK who have received help with their finances through an IVA or Trust Deed with Creditfix.

As the cost-of-living crisis continues, many households are struggling financially and increased levels of debt is a real worry for many.

Police have named the man who died following an altercation in Exeter at the weekend.

Now formally identified, he has been named as Stephen Cook, 45, from Exeter.

An Exeter business has raised £44,000 in Innovate UK grant funding to grow Plus - its digital wellbeing platform, helping school children to track and manage their mental health with support from parents and teachers.

Exeter College is celebrating after a full Ofsted Inspection, which has resulted in the College retaining the impressive accolade ofOutstanding.

Eight years since its last inspection Ofsted again confirmed that Exeter College is an Outstanding College. Marsh Barton station opening delayed

Trains won’t now stop at the forthcoming Marsh Barton station until the spring.

It had been hoped the ‘halt’, located alongside Exeter’s energy from waste plant, would open before the end of 2022, but Devon County Council says the project has faced “challenges” with building supplies and recent weather conditions.

While construction is now “substantially complete” on the £16 million scheme, it adds that standard ‘entry-to-service’ procedures will need to be completed before it can open to passengers. These will begin soon.
