Peter Jewell, the Honorary Patron and founding donor of The Bill Douglas Cinema Museum, has passed away at the age of 90.

Together Peter and his great friend, the renowned filmmaker Bill Douglas, put together an amazing collection of 50,000 artefacts on the history of cinema and the moving image.

After Bill’s death Peter gifted the collection to the University of Exeter to establish the museum because he wanted everyone to share their joy and fascination with moving pictures. He remained a very active donor, hugely invested in the museum and its success, until his death...

Scout and Guide’s from across Exeter are gearing up to take to the Exeter Barnfield Theatre stage once again for their annual Exeter Gang Show.

Taking place from Wednesday 9th to Saturday 12th April, Exeter Gang Show 2025 is packed full of popular songs, dance, comedy and laugh out loud sketches performed by Scouts and Guides from across Exeter and the local area.

Councillors back Exeter’s submission for local government reorganisation

Councillors have unanimously backed a submission which sets out the council’s case for a new unitary authority which includes the city of Exeter.

The council will now submit its interim case for the creation of a new unitary authority incorporating the city of Exeter and adjacent areas after it gained cross-party support.

Revealed - Topsham Museum’s Hidden Treasure Chest!

A much-loved Museum has discovered a treasure chest of items it knew little or nothing about, thanks to a special project undertaken entirely by volunteers.

The aim of the project was to trawl through a vast reserve store of artefacts held in Topsham Museum but not previously put on display. Volunteers then assessed the historical value of each item, cleaning, indexing and photographing each in turn.

The end result will be the creation of a “hidden gems” section on the Museum website, allowing visitors to see the items for the first time.
