Exeter Eagles BMX Club welcomes a new defibrillator thanks to a generous donation from award-winning housing developer, Burrington Estates New Homes.

The volunteer-run BMX club based in Marsh Barton, Exeter holds race events throughout the year with up to 200 riders competing on race days. The club is a hub for the local community, welcoming over 9000 visitors a year.

One of the region’s transport experts has warned that a ‘cultural shift’ in our attitude towards on-road transport is needed if Devon is to become a net-zero county.

Nik Bowyer is a member of Devon’s Net-Zero Taskforce and Chair of the South West region of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation.

Moor Otters sculptures officially unveiled

‘Naked’ otter sculptures were unveiled at a special event today to mark the next exciting steps of Dartmoor National Park’s Moor Otters arts trail 2020. The event held at Bovey Castle, and hosted by Dartmoor National Park, gave artists the opportunity to collect their sculptures so they can start transforming them into stunning individual works of art. At the same time, businesses and supporters were able to learn more about how the funds from Moor Otters sponsorship and sales will go towards important conservation projects so people connect with Dartmoor and care for it in the future....

Young people spending Christmas in an Exeter hospital will be given special presents to open on Christmas morning thanks to a nationwide campaign organised by The Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust.

Cancer does not take time off over Christmas and so the charity’s Christmas appeal ‘Fuel the Sleigh’ aims to spread a little cheer to young people forced to spend the holidays in hospital away from their family and loved ones.

GREEN teenage champions are targeting Exeter’s parks, school streets and supermarket parking to pick-up thousands of harmful cigarette butts.

Environmental-aware dynamic duo Daisy Norris and Jack Eynon will be out and about across the city over the next few weeks to collect the discards and help clean our spaces. A campaign to encourage more people in Exeter to vote in next week’s General Election has paid off with nearly 8,000 extra voters signing up.

Exeter City Council said that reminders to encourage people to register to vote had prompted a flood of registrations in the lead up to last week’s deadline.

A dedicated team of Christmas volunteers have spent over 3,000 hours creating a range festive displays and decorations bringing to life this year’s theme, which has taken inspiration from the well-known poem by Clement Clarke Moore, ‘Twas the night before Christmas.’

It’s all thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers at the National Trust’s Killerton, near Exeter, who start planning the theme, design and decorations at the start of each year.

Freemasons hope to save lives at Starcross Bowling Club

At a recent meeting on the grounds of Starcross Bowling Club, Brian Adams representing both the Masonic Lodge of Union who meet at Starcross and the Salem Masonic Lodge meeting in Dawlish presented the club president Eileen Martin and the club captain Simon Whittle with two cheques totalling £750 to enable the club to purchase a defibrillator.

Shoppers help choose Tesco Centenary Grants in Devon

Charities that enhance and often saves the lives of Devon people have received £50,000 to continue their amazing work.

The supermarket chain is marking its Centenary year with two special Bags of Help funding rounds, with a huge £100,000 funding pot in Devon.

The first of these special rounds concentrated on groups delivering health and wellbeing benefits. In first place, Devon Air Ambulance Trust has been awarded £25,000. In second place, HeadsUP Mental Health Awareness Limited has been awarded £15,000. In third place, Pete's Dragons has been awarded £10,000.
