East Devon homes thrown out for being 'too small'

East Devon councillors have turned down a development scheme at Clyst Honiton because the homes are “too small” and it would encourage peope to drive.

Planners were not prepared to accept proposals 10 square metres below standards recommended in national planning guidelines despite approving houses of the same size earlier this year.

A local housebuilder has launched a scheme to support community initiatives in Exeter.

Redrow South West, which is currently building at St. Michael’s Meadow, on Chudleigh Road, and Saxon Brook, on Manley Meadow, has created the £10,000 community fund to support as many local groups, organisations and charities as possible – and is now welcoming applications.

Topping out ceremony marks major construction milestone at St Leonards Quarter residential development

Independent housebuilder, Acorn Property Group, has celebrated a momentous milestone in the development of new homes at St. Leonards Quarter in Exeter, with a topping out ceremony.

Garden extravaganza funds to enhance museum

A record total of £13,500 has been raised by one of the largest garden events in Devon this summer.

Topsham Museum is based in one of the town’s 17th century houses close to the Exe estuary, and volunteers from the Museum organised a Secret Gardens event in June.

This involved 14 ‘hidden gem’ gardens dotted around the estuary town being thrown open to visitors one afternoon: and despite uncertain weather, a record 1,600 entry programmes were sold, with some individual gardens seeing up to 1,300 visitors during just five hours.

Bikeability training in Devon among best in country

Devon County Council has been named among the top ten local authorities for providing Bikeability cycle training for Year Six school pupils over the past year. New figures from the Bikeability Trust show that cycle training across the country is reaching more children than ever before, with almost 462,000 children receiving training between April 2022 and March 2023. In Devon, Bikeability training was delivered to more than 8,500 or 71% of Year Six pupils across the county during that same 12 months. Exeter and Sandy Park chosen as host city and venue for Women’s Rugby World Cup

Exeter and Sandy Park have been chosen as a host city and venue for the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025.

Exeter and Sandy Park are one of only eight cities and stadiums that will be playing host to the biggest ever celebration of women’s rugby, the City Council has revealed.

Care home Cumberland Grange in Exeter will be opening it’s doors to a number of people from the community to help tackle loneliness in their local community.

An art project exploring the heart is coming to Alphington

Local homebuilder Barratt Homes Exeter has launched a series of public art workshops taking place from Monday 21st to Friday 25th August at the thriving new Victoria Heights development in Alphington, Devon.
