Survey local riverbanks this spring to help save endangered water voles

Wildlife charity People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) is calling for volunteers across England, Scotland and Wales to search for sightings and signs of water voles along local riverbanks, canals and other inland waterways, from now until 15th June 2021.

This survey, which is part of PTES’ National Water Vole Monitoring Programme, helps conservationists find where water voles are living, how their populations are changing each year, and most importantly, where they are in most need of help.

Ride On Cycling for All has been awarded £4,000 from the South West Water Community Fund Project to provide free bike check sessions to NHS staff.

A total of 198 staff at community hospitals in Crediton, Tiverton, Honiton, Exmouth, Dawlish, Teignmouth, and Newton Abbot will benefit from 18 free ‘Dr Bike’ events between June and October.

Dr Bike sessions consist of 30-minute slots in which mechanics carry out a 20-point safety check, making minor adjustments to improve the smooth running of bicycles. Ride On does not do commercial servicing, so if further work is required...

Chris Hampton is a veteran of running half marathons around Exeter for charity.

He was all set to take part in this year’s Great West Run but when it was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, he refused to be blown off course.

New council promises all-out effort to drive Devon's economic recovery

The Conservatives have kept control of Devon County Council for an historic fourth term and have pledged to do everything they can to drive the county's economic recovery.

The party won 39 of the 60 seats that were up for election on Thursday. The Liberal Democrats took nine, Labour seven, Independents three and Greens two.

It's the fourth election in succession that Conservative leader John Hart has seen his party win an overall majority.
