Staff at Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital have celebrated the hard work of nurses both at the hospital, and worldwide on International Nurses Day 2016.

Every day, nursing staff around the world go the extra mile for their patients. Nurses’ Day is a chance to say thank you.

A vintage-style afternoon tea party was held at the hospital for both nurses and support staff, as a small token of our thanks for the hard work and dedication of our nursing staff.

325 years of loyal service from Nuffield Health Exeter staff

Twenty-two employees of Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital, with a combined 325 years of service between them, have picked up long service awards marking their 10, 15, 20 and 35 year anniversaries.

Each recipient will receive a Yearbook which is a personalised brochure filled with unique messages from leaders and team members, a Gift of their choice, and a sterling silver anniversary pin.

State-of-the-art equipment at Nuffield

Exeter Chiefs players helped to launch state-of-the-art equipment at an Exeter hospital.

The machinery will provide detailed body scans ensuring quick diagnosis and effective treatment.

The onsite MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scanner was launched at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Exeter Nuffield Hospital. Consultants and GPs joined special guests the drinks and canapé reception.

Men refuse to face up to health issues

Research from Nuffield Health reveals just how uncomfortable men are when it comes to discussing their health and how it is preventing them from taking up potentially life-saving screening services for prostate and testicular cancers.

More than 2,000 men were surveyed and it was revealed that a quarter of these men (25 per cent) have a health concern that they have not discussed with a GP. Further to this, almost half of those surveyed (46 per cent) said they would wait for a few weeks to see if their condition improved before visiting their GP with a health concern.

Exeter pupil awarded research placement

An Exeter School scientist spent one month on a Nuffield research placement at Exeter University gaining an insight into scientific research.

Upper Sixth Former Robbie Bell spent four weeks in Exeter University's Biophysics department; running a research project alongside a lab partner, working nine to five, five days a week.

Robbie said the experience was incredibly independent and unique.

One in 5 living with undiagnosed back pain

One in five people in the South West (19 per cent) are suffering from debilitating lower back pain and do not have a diagnosis for their symptoms.

This is leading to widespread anxiety, depression and avoidable time off work, new research suggests.

A new treatment is being offered at the Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital to help people who suffer from the need to go to the toilet urgently. The treatment is nurse-lead but overseen by a consultant for both urinary and faecal incontinence.

Needing to go to the toilet too often is a problem for up to 20% of the population, and many people find it hard to talk to their GP about it.

Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital Staff Onesie Sleepwalk for Hospice

Staff from the Nuffield Heath Exeter Hospital have walked through the night to raise money for the Rowcroft Hospice in Torquay.

Business Development Coordinator Sophie Newbolt, Out Patient Services Manager Julie Chisholm, Ward Manager Sue Bore and Staff Nurse Alison Harbord entered the 15-mile Midnight Walk as the “Nuffield Onesies”.

They raised £500 for the hospice.
