Hounds First Sighthound Recue will be holding a Family Dog Show at Westpoint in Exeter on Saturday (25 April 2015) from 10am-5pm. Showing is from11am.

Hounds First Sighthound Recue have been chosen one of a small number of charities to hold an event after entering a competition to mark Westpoint’s 25th anniversary.

Paws for Thought is an event for the whole family. Entry to the event will be free, but there will be donation buckets on the gate.  There will be an entry fee of £1 per class for the dog show. All proceeds from the show going to Hounds First Sighthound Rescue, to help with the rehabilitation of the hounds in the charity’s care.

At the event there is a family dog show, with a great mix of classes including best six legs, best pedigree, best cross breed and best rescue.

Along with the family dog show, Paws for Thought is also an educational event, bringing together experts in the field of dog behaviour, veterinary advice from Hounds First Sighthound Rescue’s patron Dr Chris Ereimann, veterinary surgeon at Companion Care Exeter, dog training and agility.

There will be two show rings, an agility demonstration ring and a behaviourist demonstration ring with Jim Greenwood, renowned dog behaviourist, who will also be giving a working dog demonstration.

Around the rings there will be various stalls, including children’s activities, dog grooming, trade stands and competitions, including a ‘fastest recall’ event.

Refreshments will be available, including a homemade cake stall.

Dogs must be kept on a lead and there are to be no in season bitches allowed on site.

As a charity Hounds First Sighthound Recue’s aim is to rescue and rehome sight hounds, including Lurchers, Greyhounds, Whippets and Salukis as well as other types of sighthound across the UK. The charity also aims to educate people about responsible dog ownership.

This event is about raising the profile of the charity, raising awareness of dog owners responsibilities to both their dogs and the general public in a fun and informative way.
