Sidmouth Madd Jam
Sidmouth police are aiming to forge positive links with young people by setting up the town’s first Scooter and BMX Jam.
The neighbourhood team has organised the event on Saturday 5 April to provide vital youth activities and engage with young people about personal safety and antisocial behaviour.
The event will take place from 11am to 4pm at The Ham on the eastern end of Sidmouth Esplanade.
Scooter manufacturer Maddgear will be bringing their roadshow and portable skate park with five of their pro-team scooter and BMX riders to run demonstrations, tuition and competitions throughout the day.
A police youth intervention officer and a school nurse will be on hand to give young people information and advice on the dangers of excessive alcohol, substance abuse and legal highs.
Sergeant Andy Squires, neighbourhood team leader, said: “The aim of the day is to provide the young people of Sidmouth and surrounding towns and villages with an enjoyable day, and to encourage engagement with the police and other agencies whilst having a good time.
“We hope this will be a great day for all and will go a long way towards making the police more approachable to young people.”
The event will also feature trade stands and displays and a barbecue by Sidmouth Angling Club with a share of the profits being donated to Sid Vale Scout Group.
