Apple Festival
Come and celebrate our gorgeous English apples at an Apple Festival taking place in the quaint farming village of Stockleigh Pomeroy.
The Romans first brought the apple to the UK and thanks to them there are now over 1,200 native apples for eating, cooking, as well as for cider making and crab apples for pickling. They have enchanting names such as: Acklam Russets, Barnack Beauty, Nutmeg Pippin, Knobby Russet… and many more.
The Apple Festival will be a great day out for all the family. Activities on the day include:
Cider Tasting
Come and try Devon's scrumptious cider. We'll have a range of local ciders on offer for you to taste including Winkleigh Cider, Sandford Orchards, Sandford Courtenay and Gray's Tedburn
Apple PressingBring your apples and make your own juice with our apple press. Don't forget to bring some bottles to take it home in!
Live Music from 'A New Vintage'
We're very excited that 'A New Vintage' will be playing at our Festival. They're a stompy Devon-based barn dance band with Jenny Read on Piano, Matt Norman on Mandolin and Ed Rennie on Melodeons.
Recipe Swap and appletastic food
Do you have a favourite apple recipe you would like to share? Bring your recipes along and we'll post them up on the day. We'll also have a range of appley food on offer from pork and sausage butties with apple sauce to toffee apples and puds.
Games and competitions
Are you a dab hand at making apple pies and chutney? If so enter them into our food competition taking place on the day. There will also be lots of games including apple bobbing, longest peel competition and you can even try your hand to see if you are the next William Tell!
Guess the name of the worm!
We have baked a fruit cake in the shape of an apple and as you can see in the photo attached there's a worm living in it! Can you guess his name?
