Friends Evening Lecture Wartime Renaissance: Art in Britain 1939-45
Dr Anthony Kelly will explain that, unexpectedly, art prospered in Britain during the Second World War. Kenneth Clark’s ‘official’ war art was exhibited in the National Gallery with a classical ‘painting of the month’. His Recording Britain displayed tranquil landscapes, some in Devon. Large audiences also saw many independent exhibitions nationwide, providing inspiration in the dark days of war.
Tickets cost £5 and are available from the Royal Albert Memorial Museum reception from 9 July in person or by phone using a credit or debit card on 01392 265858 during opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm.
