Fun Palaces 2019

Exeter Library is gearing up for an action-packed weekend of free fun and frolics, with the annual Fun Palaces celebrations. Fun Palaces is a free, nationwide campaign taking place on 5th and 6th October 2019, designed to promote culture at the heart of communities and bring local people together to learn and experience new things using arts, craft, science, tech, digital, heritage and sports activities.

Saturday 5th October 2019:

10am-11am – UrbanFlow Streetdance. Come along and try UrbanFlow Streetdance.

10am-12pm - FabLab Drop In Session. Make a keyring on the laser cutter.

11.30am-1.30pm – Raspberry Pi Jam. The Raspberry Pi is a credit sized computer that has infinite possibilities. Run by 2timesdo.co.uk

2-3pm, The Rhythm of Life Choir With boundless energy and an array of songs from Paul Simon, Elton John and Stevie Wonder through to Muse, Sia and Coldplay, they won’t fail to entertain! They are a ‘sing for your city’ award winning choir, with many performances under their belts. This is a choir not to be missed!’

2-5pm, Ockment Valley Handbell Ringers Have a go on handbells, handchimes, Belleplates®. No need to be able to read music. Accessible and inclusive to all, work as a team and be immersed in music.

10am-5pm, University of Exeter International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Microscience: Plastic In Action Saturday science workshop at the Fun Palace in Exeter Library to bring awareness to the planet’s microplastic pollution problem! Do you want to learn about the tiny invisible plastics that are floating around in our oceans? The iGEM team from the University of Exeter, are developing a filter to catch and breakdown the microplastics that leave our washing machines when we wash our clothes. Come along to our workshop to experiment with some live biology and find out more about plastic pollution.

10am – 5pm, Met Office The Met Office invite you to come and learn more about weather and climate with a range of activities for all ages.

Sunday 6th October 2019:

2-3pm, Music Machines Create music on your device! Music Machine 4 is a playful, playable, multi-player audio installation. Connect your device to the network, press the coloured buttons on your screen and listen to the music you create. 3-4pm, Scottish Dancing Have a go at traditional Scottish dancing!
