Join us for Tea and raise money for RNIB
Sight loss charity RNIB are inviting you to join us for this year’s Tea for RNIB on Thursday 23rd March by hosting your own Tea party or cake sale and help support thousands of people living with sight loss in Devon and Cornwall. All you need to do is ask everyone you know either at work, school, college or even at home to bake something yummy, set a time and place for your tea party and ask everyone who attends to make a small donation to RNIB.
Emily was just one and a half when she was diagnosed with a sight loss condition. RNIB have been a huge part of her life since she was nine. As a child Emily had been limited to reading big picture books while classmates read more advanced texts. She felt frustrated that people thought she was not capable, whereas the actual issue was not being able to see print, not a failure to understand the text. This in turn led to her feeling isolated and knocked her confidence, she felt frustrated that people were saying she wasn’t up to scratch.
Emily says; “RNIB Talking Books are a window into a world of sight, the way I learnt about myself and the world around me. With RNIB I have been able to tumble down the rabbit hole with Alice, I have been able to fly off to Neverland with Peter, Wendy, John and Micheal, I have been able to climb aboard the Hogwarts Express with Harry, Ron and Hermonie. Talking Books have given me a Voice, a Choice and a Future.”
Laura Board, Area Fundraising Manager for RNIB said: “Every day 100 people start to lose their sight. Right now there are over two million people living with sight loss in the UK, of whom it is estimated that more than 32,000 live in Devon.
The money raised from this year’s Tea for RNIB will help us reach more blind and partially sighted people in your local area, providing emotional support and practical solutions to the everyday challenges, so that we can face the future with confidence together.”
If you would like to get involved, then we would love to hear from you. We’ll also send you everything you need to get your Tea for RNIB party started, simply register online today at rnib.org.uk/teaforrnib or contact us on 01392 798201 or laura.board@rnib.org.uk
