Composer Laura Rossi performs her original score to the BFI silent 1915 film Jane Shore live with her ensemble Orchestra Celeste. Jane Shore was the first British epic and one that rivalled the best productions coming out of Hollywood at the time, being described as the British answer to Birth of a Nation.

A cast of thousands is used to great effect by Will Barker (founder of the first Ealing Studios) in his ambitious version of the much-told story of Jane Shore, a goldsmith’s wife who became mistress to Edward IV and then fell foul of Richard III. With gorgeous location work, this early feature demonstrates a love for historical drama that shows no sign of abating in British cinema today. A rare chance to see this early classic from the BFI National Archive on the big screen.

Laura Rossi has previously scored a number of feature films including BFI Silent Shakespeare, also performed at Exeter Phoenix.
