The woodlands of the south west of England are very special places for wildlife. Close to the Atlantic ocean, they provide conditions for plant life that are not found in most of the rest of the UK.

We are celebrating, through the Make the Small Things Count project, the woodland wildlife that can easily go unnoticed and invite you to take a moment to have a really close look at this special habitat by visiting the fantastic exhibition of photographs at the Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centre, Princetown. The exhibition runs from 11 Sept 2015 - 28 Feb 2016. FREE admission.

Focusing on the hidden gems to be found within our Atlantic woodlands photographers have captured stunning images of lichens, mosses and ferns, either on their own, as part of the immediate environment or the wider landscape. Through this new look at woodlands and the lower plants they support it is hoped to inspire people to get out and explore this wonderful and unique habitat.

The exhibition was launched in April 2015 and features the outstanding landscapes of Dartmoor National Park, the Mendip Hills, Quantocks, Exmoor, and North Devon coast, which are internationally significant for these beautiful and important plants.

The Wonders of South West Woodlands features images submitted by amateur photographers as part of a competition organised by Plantlife’s Heritage Lottery Funded Make the Small Things Count project.
