Alasdair Beatson, pianist in concert

"Canny and uncompromising" is how Classical Source once described pianist Alasdair Beatson's approach to musical programmes. Certainly this talented musician has a well deserved reputation for sensitivity and insight, as well as a reputation for a wide and varied repertoire. Audiences who enjoyed Alasdair's West Country performances in 2012 will therefore be delighted to learn that he is to perform again at Lower Pulworthy, Highampton, near Hatherleigh, Devon, EX21 5LQ on Saturday 7 June in 2014, thanks to arts charity Concerts in the West, which organises the concerts.

Catherine Hodgson, founder and director of Concerts in the West said: "Alasdair is a highly regarded musician and hugely popular with all our audiences. He is an extremely well established chamber pianist and has worked with some of the world's finest musicians. When you think that Alasdair is booked to play a sixth solo Wigmore Recital this year, you realise how fortunate we are to have him for our regional performances."

As well as his Wigmore Recital on 13 July, Alisdair Beatson's other 2014 performances include the complete Beethoven cello sonatas with Pieter Wispelwey and chamber collaborations with artists such as Adrian Brendel, Philippe Graffin, Erich Hobarth, Henning Kraggerud and Pekka Kuusisto.

Alasdair's recent CD of Mendelssohn's piano music produced by SOMM Recordings was praised by Classic FM Magazine for its rare insight and was awarded the Outstanding accolade by International Record Review. His debut album released by SOMM Recordings in 2009 - featuring the Opus 1's of Schumann, Brahms, Grieg and Berg - received critical acclaim. Alistair's latest CD, featuring the complete piano music of Ludwig Thuille, was released in April 2013.

The list of recent concert performances by Alasdair includes appearances as a soloist with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, the Scottish Ensemble and performances as soloist in Messiaen's Oiseaux Exotiques, conducted by George Benjamin and Hindemith's The Four temperaments. Alasdair's has played at numerous festivals, including Aldeburgh, Bath Mozartfest, Music at Plush, Resonances (Belgium), Ernen (Switzerland), Delft and Oxford Chamber Music. He is a regular participant of IMS Prussia Cove and was invited to join their touring groups in 2007 and 2011.

Alasdair is Artistic Director of the chamber music festival Musique a Marsac and frequently performs with the Scottish Ensemble as a soloist, and will return in the Autumn this year for his third tour, playing concertos of Mozart and Haydn.
