Oh What a Night!
The lull between Christmas and New Year can be a trying time; attempting to be the perfect host and keeping your guests amused, whilst avoiding the looming guilt over the amount of food consumed and drink imbibed over the holidays! Luckily, Christow local Ian Goodwin has noted that this gap in the schedule could be put to much better use and has organised a superb event to fill the social calendar – whilst also raising money for Devon Air Ambulance Trust.
‘Oh What A Night!’ is being hosted at Teign Valley Community Hall in Christow on Saturday 28th December, with party-goers being treated to music from 3 live bands alongside a hog roast, for a small entry fee of only £15. Starting at 7pm, The Palk Arms Inn will be providing an offshoot bar ‘Best Bar None’ which will sell all the usual beverages and plenty of real ale – a perfect accompaniment to the hog roast provided by Moretonhampstead butcher and deli, Michael Howard.
Music will be heard throughout the Valley as a hat-trick of bands perform on the night, including local ‘Gidleys Turn’, fab 6-piece ‘Hazaar’ and ‘The Honesty John Band’. Providing for an array of tastes, all bands differ in musical style; with Gidleys Turn playing bluegrass and folk tunes, Hazaar performing high energy Eastern European dance tunes and The Honest John Band turning their hand to just about anything from Reggae to Rock ‘n’ Roll.
When asked about the idea behind the party Ian commented that, “The days between Christmas and New year are always a challenge. You feel as though you SHOULD still be partying and you SHOULD still be entertaining those guests who are hanging around but you’ve usually run out of ideas! This will be the party that justifies your days off work in the in-between days of the festive season.” Ian decided to select DAAT as their chosen charity because “we all live around Dartmoor where the Air Ambulance comes into its own in the event of an emergency.”
Tickets for ‘Oh What A Night!’ will be on sale at the end of November from The Horse in Moretonhampstead, The Bridford Inn, Michael Howard, Teign House and the Palk Arms Inn. For more information on how you can support Devon Air Ambulance Trust please visit www.daat.org
