Organ Concert

The concert will be given by Virtuosi, an international group of instrumentalists from Wells Cathedral Specialist Music School.  It will also be the first ‘outing’ for our newly-acquired Bechstein concert grand piano.

There will be a variety of instruments, composers and of styles which we hope will appeal particularly to younger members of the audience.

The first half of the programme will consist of individual items:-

Hungarian Rhapsody for cello and piano by Popper – a splendidly rhetorical opening leading to some astonishing virtuosity.

Hindemith’s poignant Trauermusik for viola and strings

The first movement of Bruch’s evocative Scottish Fantasy for violin and piano

Per Slava, a short but intense movement for solo cello

Vieuxtemps’ Elegie, a gloriously lyrical piece

And finally the stratospheric fireworks of Wieniawski’s Scherzo Tarantelle  for violin and piano.

The second half of the concert will feature all the string players in:-

Brahms’ Sextet in Bb, op.18

Tickets £15 (£7 for students).

Box office: 01626 890243 Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.
