Jeff Howard Jeffrey Howard was born in Cardiff and studied at the University of Wales College, Cardiff and the Royal Academy of Music, London specializing in organ performance and Church Music. He now pursues a career as organist, pianist, singer, coach and conductor.
Jeff has performed in many concert halls and cathedrals throughout the United Kingdom and Europe and has worked with orchestras including The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the RPO, RLPO, The BBC National Orchestra of Wales, WNO, CBSO and the Budapest Symphony Orchestra as solo pianist, organist, conductor and arranger. He has appeared in recital with Bryn Terfel at Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool and is an active organ recitalist throughout the UK, recently performing the Saint-Saens Organ Symphony with the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera at St David's Cathedral, Pembrokeshire also appearing three times at the 2013 Welsh Proms in Cardiff. He was Guest Artist in Residence at First United Methodist Church, Lubbock Texas in 1996 which involved many organ recitals, choral directing, TV and radio appearances.
For the last twenty-five years, Jeff has been a Vocal Coach at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and at Welsh National Opera and Welsh National Youth Opera. He worked on the opening production of La Traviata for the Wales Millennium Centre for WNO.. Jeff also coaches at the Wales International Academy of Voice and on the Music Theatre Course at the RWCMD.. He is also a Vocal Tutor at Bristol University, Musical Director of the 200 voice St David's Praise Choir and Orchestra, Cambrensis Choir and the world famous Treorchy Male Voice Choir.
Jeff's skills as an arranger and orchestrator are in great demand and he frequently provides pieces for the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales, Songs of Praise, S4C and various solo artists including Bryn Terfel and Go Compare tenor, Wynne Evans. As accompanist, singer and arranger for Only Men Aloud!, he toured the UK twice in 2009 and released two albums with them on the Universal label. Their second album, 'Band of Brothers', for which Jeff did many of the arrangements, won them a Classical Brit in 2010..
Outside the field of classical music, Jeff is also involved in cabaret and music theatre having worked with such names as Michael Ball, John Owen Jones, Shan Cothi, Rhydian Roberts, Connie Fisher, Ruth Madoc, and more informally, Dame Shirley Bassey. Recent work includes repetiteur and keyboard player for the semi-staged production of Sweeney Todd with Bryn Terfel at the International Music Festival at Llangollen, keyboard soloist for ‘Llareggub’ by Karl Jenkins with the Russian State Orchestra in London and Swansea and pianist for summer concerts with Katherine Jenkins. The Welsh Music Guild have awarded Jeff the Joseph Parry Award for his services to music in Wales.
