Soupstock
Knightshayes is hosting its third annual celebration of local food and music in the parkland on every Sunday during August. These are free events for the whole family.
Soupstock was started in 2013 as a way to help new audiences discover Knightshayes. The aim was to put together an event to complement the local food served in the café, much of which is sourced from Knightshayes’ kitchen garden. The rolling Devon hills and the gothic stables block form the backdrop to this popular event.
Last year’s line-up included some great music from local bands followed by some top tribute acts; and this year the format will be much the same, with acts ranging from acoustic folk and jazz to skiffle and rock running between 12noon and 5pm on all days. This year’s tribute acts include Take That (2 August), Rod Stewart (9 August), Status Quo (16 August) and Wham! (23 August).
Alice Morgan-Brown, the event’s organiser said: "Soupstock is a celebration of everything Knightshayes has to offer: from our fantastic and fully productive Kitchen Garden, growing fresh fruit and veg for our Café, to our tasty soups and locally sourced burgers, all set in beautiful surroundings. Last year we were pretty overwhelmed by the support of our local community. Not only was the event a brilliant fundraiser for the conservation work we do as a charity, but it was also a great opportunity to get everyone up here enjoying themselves."
Gates will open as usual from 10am, with live music on the Stables lawn from noon.
There will be a barbecue serving locally sourced burgers and hot dogs; and visitors can also sample the delights of the walled garden with some home-made soup. Red Rock Brewery will be selling a range of local ales and ciders and, for the kids, there will be free activities and lots of parkland in which to run off some energy.
Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome too.
