Christie In Love (7pm)

Substance and Shadow
.
Howard Brenton’s ‘Christie in Love’ – a dark and disturbing journey into the mind of Britain’s most notorious single serial killer of the 20th century. John Reginald Halliday Christie strangled eight women, including his wife and a baby. He went on to entrap an innocent man, who was mistakenly hung as a result of Christie’s callous handiwork.

Substance & Shadow Theatre continue with their trademark style of intimate, minimalist theatre, inviting you to experience the chilling and brutal exploration of a murderous mind at extremely close range.

Substance & Shadow Theatre...”... have dug deeply into the themes and meaning of the play and delivered a production that would definitely put a smile onto Brenton's face. Midge Mullin's sad, suffering and devious Christie is an excellent piece of acting and Nathan Simpson's Inspector's veneer of civilisation coating darker depths is masterly. Pike gives a good constable and handles the mannequin like a second skin. ...it's dark, gritty and full of twists – even the title contains multilayered messages. Worth seeing.”
Anna Marks – Remote Goat

Lucky Dip (8.15pm)

Nuts 'n' Volts
.
Nuts and Volts is in schism. The four original members are at each other throats citing creative differences. Jane and Charlie are rejecting the outdoor invisible theatre method on the ground of irreparable damage to their highly tuned vocal cords due to over exposure to the cold, while Fin and Rachel refuse to compromise their original vision and return their art to an indoor arena. Consequently, while the lawyers discuss terms, neither faction can claim ownership of the name 'Nuts and Volts' and neither are prepared to rest while the other is at work.

Lucky Dip splits the 'From Devon with Love' audience at random with one half sent out into the streets to experience 'Madame Poliakov's Bacchanalian Backalley tour' whilst the other half remain in the theatre for 'The Madame Poliakov method, an audience with her acolytes.' You can't choose, that's why they call it Lucky Dip, so take the plunge and hope you get the better show...
