I’m Doing This For You
I’m Doing This for You is a new solo written & performed by “fearless, raw young talent” Haley McGee.
Blending storytelling, live-art and improvisation, this performance is a big romantic gesture made by a woman for a man. He’s an aspiring standup comedian. Today is his birthday. The audience is her gift to him. It’s a surprise. “You get comedy and cake. I get to correct a mistake.”
Over the course of the evening the event evolves from an attempt to rekindle romance to an exorcism of that love. And the only way out is through. Uncomfortable, funny and a little bit sad, the show is filled with surprising turns.
This project was developed in residence at BAC, National Theatre School of Canada and with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts. It premiered in the fall of 2015 at DaPoPo Theatre’s Live-In Festival (Halifax, Canada) and Theaterdiscounter (Berlin, Germany). This summer it plays Summerhall at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Other artists involved include Mitchell Cushman (direction) and Deborah Pearson (dramaturgy).
