Exeter Northcott Theatre are celebrating as it was announced they have won a Green Impact Bronze Award for their efforts over the last year to improve the theatre’s environmental credentials.

Green Impact is a national scheme involving universities and colleges across the UK, as well as other organisations including the NHS and the police. The initiative is run by the NUS, encouraging and supporting staff to change their habits and adopt more environmentally sustainable working practices.

Tanja Bartlett, Exeter Northcott’s Green Impact Champion and Marketing & Design Coordinator, said: “This is the first year we’ve taken part in Green Impact and I’m delighted that all our hard work has been recognised and rewarded with this award.

"Environmental sustainability is such a fundamentally important issue, and it’s very inspiring to see how many positive changes we’ve been able to implement this year with the support of this scheme and the University of Exeter’s Sustainability Team and, of course, all of the staff at Exeter Northcott Theatre who’ve been so willing to do their bit to help make the theatre a greener organisation.”

The theatre was one of over 20 teams within the University of Exeter’s Green Impact Scheme, competing for awards ranging from bronze to platinum level.

The theatre won a bronze award for the work done to reduce waste, increase recycling, save energy, encourage the use of more sustainable travel and procurement, and also the efforts of Green Team members Tanja Bartlett, Philip Sowton and Ian Stewart to communicate these changes to all staff at the theatre.
