Tired old teddy shop or stylised shopping experience?

The rise and rise of the charity shop

Nestled in Paris Street Exeter opposite such retail icons as Next and John Lewis, is a swathe of charity shops including Sprout, Children’s Hospice South West, Save the Children, Age UK, Shop 4ECTA and the RSPCA. What might appear as madness to have so many charity shops together is proving a shoppers’ delight as bargains can be had in an ever improving shopping environment. Charity shops have woken up to the fact that the old jumble sale, mothball ridden offering is no longer where it’s at.

The more ‘savvy’ among them are creating eye-catching window displays and enhanced in-store displays, grouping products, colours and sizes and using tried and tested retail techniques to grab the consumer’s attention with not a whiff of mothballs present or scruffy old teddy in sight.

And that’s not all – over at Hospiscare in Fore Street, Exeter plans are afoot for a Wedding Fayre on Saturday 30 March between 10am and 4pm. Hospiscare has invited a local florist, catering company, magician/wedding entertainer and men’s suit outfitter to attend and they will be putting on a fashion show to exhibit their selection of wedding dresses and wedding attire for customers to see how great their offering is at a fraction of the price.

There is also a raffle with a chance to win a wedding cake, bouquet and evening entertainment for your wedding – how neat is that?

Contact 01392 253 298 or www.hospiscare.co.uk for more information. At a time when every penny counts and there are such bargains to be had combined with the most rewarding aspect of all – that you are raising money for charity – what’s not to like?
