The Rusty Pig in Ottery St Mary has scooped two top gongs in the Live Love Eat Awards.

Not only did the popular restaurant pick up the Platinum Award for the best restaurant in Devon at the event held at the Deer Park Hotel in Honiton, it also collected the coveted top spot as 2014 Regional Restaurant Champion.

“The team was absolutely thrilled to win the award for Devon, but to pick up the regional award was the icing on the cake,” said owner and head chef, Robin Rea, who founded the restaurant and butchers shop in Yonder Street in 2011.

The annual Live Love Eat Awards, which cover the South West from Wiltshire to Cornwall, are decided by public vote and Robin was overwhelmed to learn that the Rusty Pig had garnered the greatest number of votes of all the restaurants in the area.

“Compared to some of the other finalists we’re a relatively small business, and it’s a real boost to realise that so many people took the trouble to vote for the Rusty Pig,” added Robin.

Robin was busy today (Sunday) at the Budleigh Salterton Food & Drink Festival and is currently organising guest chefs to take part in demonstrations at the Ottery St Mary Food & Families Festival which this year is on June 6.
