Cornwall Council appoints Exeter law firm
South West law firm Browne Jacobson has broadened its public sector practice following its latest appointment by Cornwall Council.
The Exeter based firm has been appointed as sole legal advisers to CORMAC to advise the organisation on highway claims and other personal injury work.
CORMAC, which is wholly owned by Cornwall Council, provides highway and environmental design and maintenance services, design and construction of major highway schemes, and facilities services including property maintenance, cleaning and caretaking services. The company also provides fleet management and maintenance, quarried stone and aggregates and laboratory services. Its clients include Cornwall Council, private clients including major civil engineering contractors and consulting engineers and other public bodies.
Browne Jacobson has also been appointed by Cornwall Council to their criminal & civil litigation panel, and their governance, parliamentary agency and electoral law panel following a formal tender process.
Whilst the firm already advises the authority on employers’ and public liability claims this is its first appointment to the wider legal panel.
Browne Jacobson’s local authority practice defends claims on behalf of local authorities and their insurers with particular specialism in employers’, public and local authority liability as well as occupational stress, education claims, highways claims, data protection and claims against social services, amongst others. The firm’s clients include Devon County Council, Travelers Insurance, NFUM, Plymouth City Council and Gallagher Bassett.
