Bank staff set to Pedal for Pudsey
Lloyds Bank colleagues from Exeter will join forces with 1,300 colleagues across the country to raise over £300,000 for BBC Children in Need, their chosen Charity of the Year Partnership.
Colleagues will cycle the equivalent of more than twice around the world in just twenty-four hours as part of the bank’s “Pedal for Pudsey” fundraising initiatives.
Lloyds Bank aims to help Britain prosper through Lloyds Banking Group’s Helping Britain Prosper Plan.
As part of this commitment, the Group aims to raise at least £2 million per year for its Charity of the Year in 2015 and 2016. This is in addition to the fundraising achieved through the bank’s exclusive schools fundraising partnership with BBC Children in Need and its role as the charity’s first ever Principal Partner.
Pedals for Pudsey aims to raise funds to ensure that children and young people in the UK can have a safe, happy and secure childhood and have the opportunity to reach their potential.
From 11am on Thursday 8 October until 10.59am on Friday 9 October three team members will be pedaling on static bikes continuously for 24 hours. They will collectively contribute to:
- 200 teams
- 1200 participants
- 127 locations
- Almost 1.8 million calories burned
- Over 50,000 miles pedalled
- £300,000 fundraising target
To help keep the team motivated and giving their all, the Exeter branch will also be hosting a prize draw and cake sale with members of the public are invited to pop into the branch during normal opening hours to support participants or make a donation.
BBC Children in Need supporter Matt Baker said: “I am so impressed by the Pedal for Pudsey challenge and inspired by the hundreds of colleagues from Lloyds Banking Group who will be pedalling thousands of miles to raise money for BBC Children in Need. From my own Rickshaw Challenge experience I know how hard it is to spend many hours in the saddle but being focussed and motivated to raise thousands of pounds and help make a difference to the lives of so many children will help the fundraisers to keep pushing on. If you are near one of the Lloyds Bank branches taking part do pop in and make a donation. You really can help children maximise their potential and be safe, happy and secure.”
Louise Dolan said: “Lloyds Exeter colleagues have always been huge supporters of the bank’s Charity of the Year raising large amounts of money for good causes by taking on incredible challenges We’re proud that our Principal partnership with BBC Children in Need will help make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children throughout the UK. Colleagues across the business are getting involved, and we have already raised more than £3 million for this year’s Appeal. This is just one way in which we’re helping to bring communities closer together, a key commitment within our Helping Britain Prosper Plan. We need lots of support from our customers and the public so please do pop along and help us achieve this fantastic fundraising target.”
Pedal for Pudsey will take place across 140 Lloyds Bank, Bank of Scotland and Halifax branches and Group Head Offices across the UK from 11.00am on Thursday 08 October until 10.59am on Friday 09 October 2015. The Exeter Pedal for Pudsey challenge is taking place at 77 Fore Street, Exeter, EX3 0HQ.
