The annual Outstanding Care Awards for Devon and Cornwall will honour outstanding individuals, providers and suppliers from across the care industry, including care homes, community care, voluntary organisations, emergency services and more.

The initiative, backed by organisations including Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, Devon County Council, Torbay Council and Proud to Care Devon, saw hundreds of entries when started in 2018 by the Devon-based Care Network Group.

With years of experience across the care sector, Kat Green and Chloe Start co-founded The Care Network Group and Outstanding Care Awards to boost support, shared learning and recognition for the sector.

Kat said: “The awards recognise some of the most incredible people in the South West. We are blessed with a caring profession passionate about the work they do. Those who care for others are a special breed – compassionate and resilient.

“The first awards in 2018 were fantastic, a very emotional evening with some incredible stories from our winners. Launching the awards for 2019, we’re very much looking forward to celebrating more incredibly deserving people and organisations across the region.”

For the Outstanding Care Awards 2019, organisations and individuals can be nominated for their exceptional contribution to care in over 20 categories, including Care Home of the Year, Support Worker of the Year, The Innovation Award, Community Engagement Award and Care Newcomer Award.

Winners in 2018 included Sarah Taylor, of Sarah’s Carers in Paignton, who won The Gold Award in the Care Champion Award category and Sheila and Brian Baker, of Shared Lives in West Cornwall, who won Gold in the Outstanding Contribution to Care category.

Nominations for the 2019 Awards are now open, ahead of the February 15 deadline. Shortlists will be announced ahead of the awards’ ceremony at the Riviera Conference in Torquay on June 28.

Last year’s winner of the Gold Award in the Outstanding Deputy Award category, Frankie Rowe, of Bluebird Care Exmouth, commented on the achievement:

“I was extremely touched and honoured to have been selected as Gold winner for
Outstanding Deputy of the Year. It is fantastic that these awards have been created to celebrate the individuals who work extremely hard every day to help others.”
