Charity donates £10,000 to support Exeter medical students’ training

A charity has made a generous donation of £10,000 to support Medicine students at the University of Exeter Medical School in essential specialised training.

The Hospital Saturday Fund’s donation will benefit 20 students in their fifth and final year as they go on placements known as electives. The six to eight week placements are mandatory and self-funded. Students work in specialised areas, often overseas, to get an insight into an area of medicine that interests them and may shape their career.

The Hospital Saturday Fund supports health charities in the form of grants for activities including care, research or support of medical training.

Dr Nicki Saulsbury, who is responsible for ensuring University of Exeter Medical School Medicine students are prepared for clinical practice, said: “Electives are a crucial aspects of a student’s training, and hones their skills and competencies in a way that can really shape their future careers. We are really grateful to the Hospital Saturday Fund for this generous donation, which will provide funding for 20 of our final year students along the path of becoming the doctors of tomorrow.”
