FoodCycle project launches in Exeter
Exeter is the newest location to launch a FoodCycle community meal made entirely from surplus food.
FoodCycle, a nationwide charity with 29 projects, uses surplus food from supermarkets to cook healthy, three-course meals for people who are in need of a warm meal and a chance to meet other people in their community.
FoodCycle Exeter opened its door in March 2016, and has been cooking up a storm every Tuesday evening at 6pm at the Wonford Community Centre, in Wonford, Exeter.
Anna Lo Jacomo, one of the volunteers running the project, says “FoodCycle is a friendly community project that brings people in need together through the power of good food.” She adds that “There are so many people who would love to get out of the house for just a couple of hours to enjoy some good food and conversation, and we would love for them to join us!”
Nick Try, FoodCycle Exeter’s Hub Manager, commented that “FoodCycle Exeter has got off to a fantastic start. Our weekly meal is a great chance to sit and chat to other people in the community over a pie and some apple crumble and custard! The team in Exeter are so passionate, dedicated and lovely – and we can’t wait for the project to go from strength to strength!”
If you know anyone who could benefit from a warm and welcoming three course meal, with some excellent conversation, please point them to FoodCycle Exeter!
