Free off-street parking in Teignbridge
Free Sunday car parking has been re-introduced in Teignmouth, Shaldon, Dawlish and Dawlish Warren car parks for the winter months.
From Sunday November 1 the seaside communities have rejoined the successful scheme which sees all 35 of Teignbridge District Council-owned car parks free of any charges on a Sunday.
The Council's free parking scheme, introduced in 2011, is aimed at boosting local trade and cutting costs to motorists. Charges are dropped in all urban and rural parts of the district with the exception of Teignmouth, Shaldon, Dawlish and Dawlish Warren through the busy summer months.
The seasonal offer helps to support a year-round the economy and give people an added incentive to visit places during quieter times without having to pay any car parking fees in Teignbridge-owned car parks.
Notices will be put on the pay and display machines in all the car parks so motorists know they do not have to pay on Sundays from now on until 27 March 2016.
It does not apply to on-street spaces which are operated separately by Devon County Council.
Cllr Doug Hellier-Laing, Teignbridge Executive Spokesperson for Economy, Skills and Tourism, said: "Teignbridge has been running with scheme with great success since 2011.
“We are keen to support our many and varied towns and villages and assist businesses during the quieter winter months. For residents, it means they can enjoy a day out with a few less pennies spent on parking in our car parks.
“We know people do take this up and spend money in the places they visit; it all adds to the local economies in a really positive way. Hopefully, it will encourage more people to visit these areas over the winter months."
A further 26 across the district offer free parking all year round all of the time.
