Traffic signals to be replaced at busy Exeter junction

Preparatory work has got underway today (Monday 12 February) to upgrade traffic signals at a junction in Exeter.

The signals at the junction of Alphington Road/Grace Road/Cowick Lane and Alphington Road/Church Road in Exeter have reached the end of their serviceable lives and it is essential they are replaced.

The initial work over the next couple of weeks will not affect the current signal operation. As much of the scheme as possible will be carried out using the existing permanent lights, but to enable the completion of the scheme, temporary signals will be in place from Monday 5 March while the main replacement work is carried out.

The signals, poles and electrics will all be replaced, and cable ducting will also be repaired. The new traffic signals will use about 70% less energy than the current system, reducing carbon emissions and costs.

The scheme is scheduled to be completed by Friday 30 March.
