Wheelchair football event in Princesshay

A group of NCS participants will be hosting a fundraising event for Whizz-Kidz, the charity which provides disabled children with the essential wheelchairs and other mobility equipment they need to lead fun and active childhoods, in Princesshay this Friday (7 August).

The National Citizen Service (NCS) is a Government-backed initiative designed to inspire young people and help them improve their local communities.

The staff at Exeter City FC’s Football in the Community team are working with 120 16-17 year olds from around the region this summer and the first wave of participants are running their social action project, with wheelchair sport demonstrations, in Princesshay between 11am and 3pm.

“We delighted to be involved with the NCS project again this year,” said Jamie Vittles, Head of Community at Exeter City FC.

“Although the young people learn a great deal about themselves in the leadership and activities weeks, I think their work on the social action project is what will stay with them for a lifetime.

“I am also very pleased that this group have chosen a project which is also very important to us here at Football in the Community: our disability sessions, which include wheelchair, Downs Syndrome, and pan-disability football events, are one of the core elements of our delivery programme."
