Exeter swimmers are Devon Champions
The first weekend of the Devon County Swimming Championships took place at the Plymouth Lifecentre on the 16th and 17th January and Exeter City Swimming Club brought a mountain of silverware and medals back to Exeter.
Team Captain Dominic Wooldridge led the way by winning the Championship finals and picking up two trophies in the 200 fly and the 400 freestyle. Dom also took 3rd place in the 200 IM. Closely followed by Aliyah Mai-Webb collecting the championship final trophy for the 200 IM and then reaching the Championship final in the 200 fly and the 200 b/k where she was second in both events. Katie Townsend was our final championship trophy winner in the 50m back, Katie was also 2nd in the 16 and over 100m freestyle, 4th in the 400 f/s and 6th in the 200 individual medley.
That wasn’t the last of the trophies though as Emily Eveling picked up the Junior Championships trophy for the 200 IM. Emily races in the 14 and under age group, but she was too fast for her age group final and raced in the Championship final for the 200IM, where she was second overall to Aliyah and 4th in the 200 fly, she picked up a silver medal in her age group 100m freestyle and was 3rd in the 400 f/s. Alec White was Exeter’s final trophy winner as Junior champion in the 50m backstroke. Alec was also 3rd in the 200 IM and 7th in the 100f/s. Alec’s older brother Liam also produced some great swims qualifying for all of the Championship finals, achieving 2nd place overall in the 50m backstroke and 400m freestyle and 4th in the 200 IM.
The Championship finals are for the fastest 8 swimmers across all age groups from the preliminary rounds irrespective of their age. The other Exeter swimmers reaching the Championship finals were were Olivia Burrows 4th in the 50m backstroke, Olivia also made the 14 and under final for the 200 IM 4th and 100 f/s 6th. Charlotte Emery, despite being in the 13 and under age group and still being 12 made the championship final for the 200 fly where she was 7th and her own age group finals in the 200 IM gold, 400 f/s gold and 100 f/s silver. Tom Downs was 3rd in the 200 fly and 7th 200 Im championship final and 3rd in the 50m b/k 16 and over final. 14 year old Joe Day was 8th in the championship final for the 200 fly.
Other medal winners in their age group events were 11 and Under age group, Keely Ware gold - 200 IM and 200 fly, silver 400 f/s ad bronze 100 f/s, Enzo Robertson-Moro gold in the 200Im and 400 f/s and bronze in the 50m back. Jolie Sellick silver in the 50 b/k and 100 f/s 5th 200 fly and 6th 200 IM.
12 and under age group Archie Tyers gold 400 f/s, silver 100 f/s and 50 b/k, Liam Jordan, silver 200 IM, also making the final of the 200Im in 6th place in this age group was Megan Kennedy Bruyneels and Lauren Ramsay 8th in the 200 IM.
13 and under age group Milly Kendall, silver in the 200 fly and 50 b/k, bronze 100 f/s and 400 f/s, 5th 200IM. Amelia Ashelford bronze 50 back, 5th 200 fly and 10th 200 IM. Luca Riezzo bronze 100 f/s 4th in the 200 IM, Justine Rannou also finalled in the 200Im 6th and 100 f.s 7th.
14 and under age group Grace James 200 fly bronze, Luke Owen 200 fly silver and Milly Rawles finalled in the 50 b/k 5th and 400 f/s 9th
15 and over age group Rebecca Gibbins 200 fly and 50 b/k Silver, 200 IM 5th, 400 f.s 6th and 100 f/s 7th.
16 and over age group Charlie Kendall 200 fly gold, 200 IM 5th, Will Amey 100 f/s 1st, 50 b/k 7th, Oliver Palmer 200 IM Silver, Adam Edwards 200 fly 3rd, Dayna Riordan made the final of the 200 IM 7th.
Keiran Tellem won a gold in the disability category for the 200IM and silver in the 100 f/s.
The next weekend of county championships will be at the Plymouth Lifecentre on the 30th and 31st January.
